Have you ever had the thought, “I just can’t forgive myself”?
Hi, I’m Steve Peterson with Fresh Start for All Nations.
There’s really no biblical basis to forgive ourselves; it’s really an issue of humbling ourselves and receiving God’s forgiveness. The idea of forgiving yourself puts you at the center and that’s kind of an insult to the Cross. I mean, if we can forgive ourselves, then Jesus didn’t need to go to the cross and die for us!
So, let’s look at a story. In the gospel of Luke, chapter seven, verse thirty-six and verses following, the sinful woman–when she was washing the feet of Jesus with her hair, her tears and expensive perfume, she wasn’t thinking about forgiving herself. She was a notorious sinner and she was thinking about the great love that He had for her and she was so humbled to receive it and she was extravagantly responding!
