Divine Delays and The Sovereignty of God

We know that God is continually working things together for good. This good is according to His will and purpose, and that purpose is to conform each of us into the image of Christ. This good that He is working does not always feel good according to the flesh – change is challenging. Paul tells us that it is the Spirit who helps us in our weaknesses and that we can trust that The Holy Spirit is interceding to the Father on our behalf even when we do not know what to pray.

Romans 8:26-29

We say this, not because we have it all figured out, but because we were able to experience God doing something in us while we were in Botswana. Without full surrender to His will, reliance on the Holy Spirit and trust that the plan was indeed good, we would have missed out on seeing and experiencing miracles in action.

While in Botswana, there was a human plan. That plan was prayed over and prepared for months in advance. We were invited to travel to Africa to share the message of forgiven, forgiving and free to nearly 100 university students, church leaders, and frankly, with ourselves. The plan was to spend a week teaching in classrooms, one on one sessions, and however the Lord saw fit. What we did not plan for was our time in Botswana to be extended due to COVID. The initial result was not shocking, we had experienced COVID in 2021, and our first battle felt like the Lord was calling us home.

This time was different. We were different. We had peace in the sovereignty of God, and were submitted to His will. If this is where He had us, He was not done with us yet. We quarantined in our hotel room for 7 days. We saw God work through His people in hospitality, love, and an opportunity for us as a couple to pray and minister to one another.

After the required isolation period, we had another PCR test, and another positive result. We immediately pushed God to a distance, doubting His timing and questioning His plan. We became filled with anxiety, anger and fear. We were disappointed and ready to go home. We returned to the hotel to regroup, rest and pray. It wasn’t until we fully surrendered and allowed the doubt we were experiencing to draw us closer to Him, that we saw His hand at work. We poured out our hearts and placed our trust in His plan. By the end of the day we were cleared for release from our hotel room of captivity.

He was not done with us yet! We were welcomed back to the OBC campus to continue building relationships with the staff and students, we attended a commissioning, and had the privilege of praying with and ministering to the students one last time by the light of a fire. This was an extremely precious time of seeing Freedom unleashed, strongholds torn down and our hearts being radically changed forever. All miracles we would have missed out on had we remained frustrated by His divine delay.

He truly worked it out for good, for us and for others!

Living OUR Legacy: “God is in the Details”

Did you know that the details of your life matter to the Lord? We have a detailed God. He not only cares about the things that you care about, but He also cares about how they affect you and what your response will be to these issues of life.

The scripture says in Psalm 138:8 –

“The LORD will accomplish what concerns me; Your faithfulness, LORD, is everlasting. Do not abandon the works of Your hands.”

This involves trust in Him to accomplish what concerns you, but also what GOD wants to do in you in this process! We, as a body of Christ, are not always thinking about the truth of the second part of this statement. We are not here to have Him serve us. I used to tell my children when they were growing up that God isn’t Santa Claus! He is not here to serve us, we are here to serve and glorify Him! He cares about what we care about, but more than this, He cares about us becoming like Him through faith and obedience.

In the Fresh Start process, we help participants to be very particular about the details of learning biblical forgiveness. In His word, God teaches us that partial obedience is disobedience. (Example: I Samuel 15) God not only shows us what to do to obey Him in His word, but He also tells us how to obey.

I Samuel 15:22-23 –

“But Samuel replied, ‘What is more pleasing to the LORD: your burnt offerings and sacrifices or your obedience to His voice? Listen! Obedience is better than sacrifice, and submission is better than offering the fat of rams. Rebellion is as sinful as witchcraft, and stubbornness as bad as worshiping idols. So, because you have rejected the command of the LORD, He has rejected you as king.'”

Anything less than biblical obedience – DETAILED OBEDIENCE, God considers disobedience, and there are life consequences to our disobedience. How sad that many people misunderstand what God is up to as they go through life’s problems. He wants to invest HIMSELF into you through these problems, so that you may experience HIM as you become Forgiven, Forgiving and Free!
